Illinois College to host book launch for "Saving Orchids: Stories of Species Survival in a Changing World"

Illinois College is hosting a special book launch event to celebrate the publication of "Saving Orchids: Stories of Species Survival in a Changing World," co-authored by Lawrence W. Zettler, Hitchcock Professor of biology at Illinois College, and Philip Seaton.

Published by the , this book explores the critical efforts to conserve orchid species worldwide.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Zettler as he shares insights into orchid biology, conservation challenges, and the inspiring global initiatives dedicated to protecting these remarkable plants. The event will feature a book reading, an author discussion, and a signing reception.

The book launch will take place on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Dunham Auditorium in Crispin Hall on the Illinois College campus. The program begins at 4 p.m. with a book reading and author conversation, followed by a book signing and reception from 5 to 6 p.m.

Zettler鈥檚 extensive research and dedication to orchid conservation have made a significant impact on the field, and his collaborations with global institutions, including the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, have elevated Illinois College鈥檚 presence in international conservation efforts. This event is free and open to the public.

Books will be available for purchase during the event, and guests are invited to enjoy refreshments while engaging in conversation about the importance of conservation.
